CSA Produce Subscription
We are offering two 10-week CSA sessions (Community Supported Agriculture, a fresh produce subscription program) for 2024. We are planning for a spring session (Apr 20 - June 22) followed immediately by a summer session (June 29 - Aug 31). Sign-up and payment for each session will be made separately.
You can read more about CSAs and how they support the local farming community here.
Our CSA includes a collaboration with fellow Piedmont farmer Nicole Rosenberger (Deep River Flower Farm). Nicole grows beautiful cut flowers and is offering bouquets as a stand-alone subscription and as an add-on to the veggie CSA box. This collaborative model worked really well during the 2020 - 2023 seasons, so we’re happy to be working with Nicole again this year!
Our Summer veggie box is comprised of 6-8 seasonal items equaling an average total market value of $30 each week. To give an idea, we expect our first box of the summer session, on June 29th, to look something like: Summer Squash, Cucumbers, Green Beans, Potatoes, Swiss Chard, Cherry Tomatoes, Basil, and possibly the very first Slicing Tomatoes of the season. Of course there are many variables, and several other vegetables that could be ready at that time, but this is a good example of an early summer offering.
NEW SUMMER OPTION:
We are introducing something new this year for the summer session, the Heirloom Tomato Add-On!
Are you as crazy about big, tasty heirloom tomatoes as we are? Do you wish you could have 2-4 one-pounders (in addition to the normal tomato portion included in the veggie share) each week for tomato sandwiches, BLTs, and just plain eating? If so, then we are trialing this new add-on just for you! We believe that we can offer large heirloom tomatoes for 4-6 weeks of the 10 week session. The additional cost will be $60.
A little explanation for new folks:
The regular slicing tomato portion in the summer veggie share is typically 2-4 medium to small tomatoes, totaling about 2.5 lbs. and consisting of mostly hybrid (also tasty, we hope and believe) and some smaller heirloom varieties. Cherry, salad, and plum tomatoes are additional, separate items.
The reason we don't send out piles of the giant and delicious heirlooms we love to grow is because it would take over the value of the share, limiting how much other stuff we can send, like beans, squash, cucumbers, etc. This seems especially important when you consider that some of you might not even really love tomatoes. You know, like knife & fork & salt shaker REALLY LOVE tomatoes.
So, this idea is our possible solution to this yearly quandary and we are excited to offer this new option to our fellow tomato lovers this season.
Summer session pickups begin on June 29th, and run through August 31st.
